We have read Act I and you were given a quiz prior to break. PLEASE make sure you are reading ahead. When you return, you will be expected to have completed Act II, in addition to the handouts that were given out in class on soliloquies/asides (#103) and characterization (#105). Please do not hesitate to read the entire play over the break. It will only benefit you in the end. Happy Holidays!

Students were given a reading check (quiz) on Act II. If they failed the quiz, you were asked to get your parent's signature and to complete the questions at the end of Act II. Remember, your midterm is coming up. If you avoid a zero on any of the assignments associated with Macbeth, I may allow you to utilize your notes during the midterm. Stay tuned.

Your midterm will be the week of 1/21/13. Be prepared. Study. Complete the questions in the margin of the textbook and the end of act questions, as well.

As a reward for those students working hard: If you do not receive any zero's on the in-class quizzes, you may use your notes during the exam to assist you.

Remember: You will also be expected to recite your memorized soliloquy or aside from Macbeth. These recitations are the oral portion of your midterm and are not optional. Please come prepared. (If you are unable to recite your 8-10 lines, your exam grade will be reduced one letter grade.)

Monday - No School (MLK)

1/22 and 1/23 will be dedicated to our midterm exam. Students MUST complete the multiple choice and short answer questions in our first session. 1/24 and 1/28 students will be provided with an additional 45 minutes to complete their essay portion of their exam. Please come see me to schedule a make up time if you were absent during the midterm exam class sessions.  Thank you!

We are working on our compare and contrast research paper this week. We will be in the W2 computer lab. Session #1: Research Online, Session #2: Complete graphic organizer for paper. For homework: write your ROUGH draft. Due at the start of Session #3. Session #3: Complete paper. Submit at the start of Session #4.

Senior Project/Paper: All students were given their book list this week. The list contains 34 novels. Students MUST select one novel and begin reading it as soon as possible. The senior project/paper revolves around a literary criticism and formal paper written on your selected novel.  You will receive points during the marking period for each of the components of the senior paper/project.  PLEASE make a copy of the due dates and keep it in your English notebook for reference.

Course Reflection, Letter To Your Future Self, Final Exams

 

This week we will wrop up the course. Together, we will reflect on the course, and I will ask you to complete a course reflection. In addition, I will be returning your "letters to yourself" that you wrote early in the school year. Like a time capsul, we will also be writing letters to your future self that I plan to mail back to you (at the address you provide to me) in 6 months time.

 

ALL FINAL EXAMS WILL BE TAKEN THIS WEEK/NEXT WEEK. Make up for exams can be scheduled for the week of 5/27. Please see me if you require a make up exam.
